Pembacaan Alkitab: Imamat 26

Tuhan dengan jelas mengatakan kepada Israel akan akibat dari tindakan dan kehidupan mereka. Bila mereka mengikuti Firman Tuhan dan tidak melakukan dosa, maka mereka akan diberkati dengan limpah dalam segala hal. Tetapi bila mereka tidak mengikuti Firman Tuhan dan jika mereka terus hidup di dalam dosa, maka mereka akan mengalami hukuman dari Tuhan secara bertahap. Jika dalam hukuman pertama mereka tidak bertobat, Tuhan akan datangkan hukuman yang lebih berat lagi dan seterusnya. Tetapi hukuman ini bertujuan untuk membuat mereka bertobat. Hal-hal inipun berlaku untuk kita, orang percaya. Bila kita taat, setia, dan mengikuti dan laksanakan Firman Tuhan dan tidak hidup di dalam dosa, maka kita akan melihat pekerjaan tangan Tuhan yang akan membawa kesuksesan dalam kehidupan kita. Tetapi bila kita berpaling dari Tuhan, tidak setia, tidak ikuti dan tidak laksanakan Firman Tuhan dan hidup di dalam dosa, maka hukuman yang datang dari Tuhan akan turun menimpa kita agar kita bertobat. Pertama akan mulai dari hal yang ringan dan bila kita tidak juga bertobat, maka yang lebih berat lagi akan menimpa kita dan seterusnya.

Dari sini kita daoat melihat kemurahan Tuhan, yaitu bahwa Ia telah memeringati kita akan akibat-akibat dari tindak laku kita. Tuhan juga beritahu bahwa semua ini dilakukan agar kita dapat bertobat dan agar keinginan hatinya terjadi, yakni agar Tuhan hadir di tengah-tengah kehidupan kita, menjadi Tuhan kita dan kita menjadi umat-Nya. Jadi, bila kita mengalami suatu masalah dalam kehidupan kita, salah satu alasan mengapa hal itu terjadi atas kita, mungkin karena dosa kita. Maka dari itu, marilah kita periksa hidup kita setiap hari, bertobat dari segala kesalahan dan dosa kita. Marilah kiita ikuti Frman Tuhan dengan taat dan setia agar Tuhan hadir di tengah-tengah kita dan menjadi Tuhan kita dan kita umat-Nya.

Bible Reading: Leviticus 26

The Lord has said it clearly to the Israelites about the consequences of their actions and lives. If they follow the Word of God and do not sin, they will be blessed abundantly in all things. But if they do not follow the Word of God and if they kept on living in sin, then they will receive punishment from the Lord in stages. If in their first stage of punishment they do not repent, then the Lord will punish them more  and so on. But these punishment has the purpose of letting them know so that they could repent. These things also applies to us, believers. If we obey, faithful, follow and do the Word of God and do not live in sin, then we will see the work of the Lord which will bring success in our lives. However, if we turn from God, being unfaithful, not following and not doing the Word of God and kept on living in sin, then the punishment of the Lord will come upon us so that we will repent. It will start with a lighter punishment, but if we do not repent, then a more severe one will be upon us and so on.

Here, we can see the Lord's mercy, which is the fact that He warned us first of the consequences of our actions. The Lord also told us that all these things He will do so that we would repent and so that His heart's desire will come true, which is for the Lord to come and dwell in our midst where He will become our Lord and us, His people. So, if we experience a problem in our lives, one of the reasons why it happens in our lives may be because of our sins. Therefore, let us check our lives everyday, repent from all wrong and sins. Let us follow the Word of God with obedience and faithfulness so that the Lord may dwell in our midst and become our Lord and us His people.
