Bagi orang Yahudi, adalah suatu hal yang tidak baik bila mereka makan dan minum dengan orang-orang yang tidak bersunat, yakni bukan Yahudi atau tidak mengikuti adat istiadat Yahudi. Dan Petrus dipimpin oleh Tuhan untuk pergi kepada Kornelius yang bukan orang Yahudi dan bahkan Kornelius dan seluruh isi keluarganya percaya kepada Tuhan, dipenuhi Roh dan dibaptis. Pada awalnya, para rasul yang belum tahu akan cerita lengkapnya tidak setuju dengan perbuatan Petrus yang pergi makan di rumah orang tak bersunat. Tetapi setelah mereka mendengar cerita lengkapnya, mereka memuji dan memuliakan Tuhan oleh karena apa yang Tuhan lakukan.
Seringkali, kita juga berlaku serupa dengan para rasul. Kadang karena adat istiadat kita, beberapa hal itu kita anggap tidak wajar dan tidak baik, tetapi itu belum tentu tidak sesuai dengan Firman Tuhan. Dan hal itu mungkin membuat kita tertutup kepada apa yang Tuhan ingin lakukan.Oleh karena itu, kita perlu untuk lebih terbuka akan hal-hal yang mungkin berbeda dengan kebiasaan atau adat istiadat kita, agar kita tidak menutup kemungkinan untuk Tuhan memakai kita. Tentunya hal-hal yang kita perlu lebih terbuka adalah hal-ha yang tetap sesuai dengan Firman Tuhan dan kebenaran. Seperti kejadian dengan Petrus, ingatlah bahwa apa yang Tuhan ingin lakukan seringkali tidak masuk di akal dan berbeda dengan apa yang dipikirkan oleh manusia. Tetapi Tuhan tidak pernah membuat kita melanggar FIrman Tuhan atau berkontradiksi dengan Firman Tuhan. Maka dari itu, jangan sampai kebiasaan dan adat istiadat kita menutupi dan membatasi Tuhan untuk bekerja dengan leluasa di kehidupan kita. Biarlah kita mengenal Tuhan dan biarkan Tuhan bekerja dengan leluasa di dalam kehidupan kita dengan cara-Nya sendiri.

Bible Reading: Acts 11
For the Jews, it is not a good thing if they eat and drink with people who are not circumcised, that is not Jews or do not follow the Jews' law. And Peter was led by the Lord to go to Cornelius who was not a Jew and Cornelius along with his whole house believed in the Lord, filled with the Holy Spirit and was baptised. In the beginning, the apostles who do not know the whole story yet do not agree with what Peter did. But after they heard the whole story, they praised and glorified the Lord for what the Lord had done.
Many times, we also act the same way as the apostles. Sometimes because of our culture, a few things are considered as not good or not normal, but it does not mean that it is not according to the Word of God. And maybe those things makes us closed from what the Lord wants to do. Therefore, we need to be more open to things which are different that our normal habit or cultures, so that we are not closing any opportunity for the Lord to use us. Of course the things that we need to be more open to are things that is still according to the Word of God and the truth. Just like the event with Peter, remember that what the Lord wants to do, many times it does not make sense and is different what what man think of. But the Lord never makes us go against the Word of God or contradicting with the Word of God. Therefore, do not let our habits and cultures closes and limits the Lord to work freely in our lives. Let us know the Lord and let the Lord works freely in our lives in His own way.
