Pembacaan Alkitab: Mazmur 79-80
Asaf berseru kepada Tuhan bagi bangsanya, bangsa Israel. Dan dalam seruan Asaf, hal-hal menarik yang dikatakan oleh Asaf. Ia berseru kepada Tuhan agar Tuhan menyelamatkan mereka demi nama Tuhan. Asaf tidak berkata bahwa karena mereka telah melakukan ini dan itu maka Tuhan perlu menyelamatkan mereka. Asaf juga tidak berkata bahwa bila Tuhan menyelamatkan mereka, maka mereka akan melakukan ini dan itu. Tetapi Asaf hanya berseru agar Tuhan yang membela nama-Nya sendiri, sebab Tuhan yang memilih Israel dan Tuhan yang memimpin, jadi hanya Tuhanlah yang dapat menyelamatkan Israel, bukan karena perbuatan Israel, bukan karena apa yang mereka dapat janjikan, tetapi karena Tuhan inginkan.. Dengan kata lain, Asaf memiliki iman bahwa Tuhan mendengarkan dan akan membela umat-Nya. Asaf tahu bahwa Tuhanlah yang memegang kehidupan dan yang menentukan segala hal. Di sini Asaf berseru dalam penyerahan kepada Tuhan, dan ia mengerti bahwa sebagai manusia kita tidak memiliki apa-apa yang dapat kita tuntut dari Tuhan, tetapi hanya karena kasih karunia Tuhan, kita berseru kepada Tuhan. Jadi, biarlah kita juga mengerti akan hal ini, agar ketika kita berseru kepada Tuhan, kita bukan berseru karena kita merasa kita memiliki hak, tetapi kita berseru karena kasih karunia Tuhan, karena Tuhanlah yang memegang hidup. Biarlah kita berseru dalam penyerahan kepada Tuhan.

Asaph cried our to the Lord for his nation, the Israelites. And in his cries, there are interesting things that Asaph said. He cried out to the Lord so that the Lord would save them for His name's sake. Asaph did not said that because they have done this or that and that is why the Lord should save them. Asaph also did not said that if the Lord saves them, they will do this or that. But Asaph only cried our to the Lord to defend His name, because the Lord is the one who chose Israel, led them, so only the Lord is able to save Israel, not because of what they have done, not because of what they can promise, but because the Lord wants to. In other words, Asaph had faith that the Lord hears and will defend His people. Asaph knew that the Lord is the one who holds life and decides everything. asaph cried in surrender to the Lord and he understood that as human we do not have anything that we can demand from the Lord, but only because of His grace, we cry out to the Lord. So, let us also understand this truth, so that when we cry out to the Lord, we do not cry out because we feel we have the right to something, but we cry out because of the grace of God, because the Lord holds life. Let us cry out in surrender to the Lord.

Asaf berseru kepada Tuhan bagi bangsanya, bangsa Israel. Dan dalam seruan Asaf, hal-hal menarik yang dikatakan oleh Asaf. Ia berseru kepada Tuhan agar Tuhan menyelamatkan mereka demi nama Tuhan. Asaf tidak berkata bahwa karena mereka telah melakukan ini dan itu maka Tuhan perlu menyelamatkan mereka. Asaf juga tidak berkata bahwa bila Tuhan menyelamatkan mereka, maka mereka akan melakukan ini dan itu. Tetapi Asaf hanya berseru agar Tuhan yang membela nama-Nya sendiri, sebab Tuhan yang memilih Israel dan Tuhan yang memimpin, jadi hanya Tuhanlah yang dapat menyelamatkan Israel, bukan karena perbuatan Israel, bukan karena apa yang mereka dapat janjikan, tetapi karena Tuhan inginkan.. Dengan kata lain, Asaf memiliki iman bahwa Tuhan mendengarkan dan akan membela umat-Nya. Asaf tahu bahwa Tuhanlah yang memegang kehidupan dan yang menentukan segala hal. Di sini Asaf berseru dalam penyerahan kepada Tuhan, dan ia mengerti bahwa sebagai manusia kita tidak memiliki apa-apa yang dapat kita tuntut dari Tuhan, tetapi hanya karena kasih karunia Tuhan, kita berseru kepada Tuhan. Jadi, biarlah kita juga mengerti akan hal ini, agar ketika kita berseru kepada Tuhan, kita bukan berseru karena kita merasa kita memiliki hak, tetapi kita berseru karena kasih karunia Tuhan, karena Tuhanlah yang memegang hidup. Biarlah kita berseru dalam penyerahan kepada Tuhan.
