Pembacaan Alkitab: Nahum 1-3
Kota Niniwe telah banyak berdosa terhadap Tuhan dan karena itulah Tuhan bernubuat akan kehancuran mereka melalui Nahum. Serupa dengan Sodom dan Gomora yang sudah terlalu jahat dan tidak ada yang mau bertobat, setelah sekian lama Tuhan memberikan kesempatan untuk bertobat, tetapi mereka tetap memilih jalan yang jahat dan oleh karena itulah mereka dihancurkan agar kejahatan itu tidak menyebar ke seluruh dunia. Bila kita lihat, bukannya Tuhan kita itu sadis, tetapi Ia adalah Allah yang adil dan benar dan sebagai hakim yang adil dan benar, bila ada yang terus menerus berbuat jahat walaupun sudah diberikan banyak sekali kesempatan untuk berubah dan bertobat, maka Ia tetap harus menjatuhkan hukuman. Ia bukanlah seperti hakim di dunia yang tidak memberikan anugrah dan belas kasihan dan kesempatan untuk bertobat dan berubah. Justru Ia memberikan banyak sekali anugrah, belas kasihan dan kesempatan untuk bertobat, tetapi mereka yang tidak mau mendengarkan Tuhan. Begitu juga dengan kita, janganlah anggap bahwa karena ada anugrah Tuhan, maka kita hdup dengan sembarangan dan dengan semena-mena. Ingatlah akan Firman Tuhan bahwa pohon yang tidak berbuah akan ditebang dan dicampakkan ke dalam api. Oleh karena itu, biarlah kita selalu sungguh-sungguh bertobat dan janganlah anggap enteng anugrah Tuhan.

Niniveh has sinned too many times and that is why the Lord prophesied of its destruction through Nahum. Similar to Sodom and Gomorrah which were too wicked and no one wanted to repent, after a long time that God gives for them to repent, but they still chose the wicked way and that is why they were destroyed so that their wickedness would not spread throughout the world. If we notice, it is not that our Lord is harsh, but He is a God who is just and righteous and as a just and righteous judge, if there are those who keeps on doing wicked things though many chances are given to repent and change, then He still have to pass on the sentence. He is not like a judge on earth who does not give grace, compassion and chances to repent and change. In fact, He gives plenty of grace, compassion and chances to repent, but they are the ones who does not want to listen to the Lord. The same applies to us, do not think that because there is grace of God, we can live as we like doing evil things. Remember of the Word of God that a tree that does not bear fruit will be cut off and be thrown into the fire. Therefore, let us always truly repent and do not take the grace of God for granted.
