Pembacaan Alkitab: Imamat 22
Tuhan memang memberikan banyak peraturan kepada orang Israel, tetapi yang Tuhan selalu ingatkan kepada Israel akan setiap peraturan yang Ia berikan adalah bahwa Tuhanlah yang menguduskan Israel dan bukan perbuatan-perbuatan mereka atau peraturan -peraturan itu sendiri. Dengan begini Tuhan dengan jelas menunjukkan otoritas yang ada pada-Nya bahwa walaupun peraturan yang Ia berikan untuk menjaga kekudusan umat-Nya dan kekudusan-Nya penting, itu tidak sepenting Tuhan sendiri, sebab pada akhirnya otoritas dan kekudusan ada di tangan Tuhan. Jadi, apakah berarti kita tidak pelru menjaga perbuatan kita? Tentu saja kita tetap harus menjaga perbuatan, sikap, tingkah laku dan perkataan kita sesuai dengan Firman Tuhan. Sebab bila Tuhan berikan peraturan dan mengatakan bahwa yang menguduskan adalah diri-Nya dan bukan peraturan-peraturan itu, maka yang Tuhan lihat adalah kesetiaan dan ketaatan kita kepada Tuhan, yakni kesungguhan hati kita kepada Tuhan. Bila kita benar-benar mengikuti Tuhan dengan sepenuh hati dan mengasihi-Nya, maka kita tentunya akan setia dan taat kepada segala Firman-Nya, walaupun tidak mudah. Tetapi bila kita hanya sekedar melakukan peraturan, maka walaupun kita taat, karena tidak ada kesungguhan hati yang kuat dan tidak ada kasih yang kuat kepada Tuhan, maka lama kelamaan kita akan capai dan meninggalkan Tuhan, atau kita tidak akan ada damai atau sukacita sama sekali dan akhirnya menjadi batu sandungan bagi orang lain. Tetapi juga, bila kita hanya berkata bahwa kita mengasihi Tuhan tetapi tidak setia dan taat kepada Firman-Nya, maka percumalah semuanya dan lebih baik kita dengan segera bertobat. Jadi, biarlah kita periksa diri kita. Biarlah kita taat dan setia kepada Tuhan dalam segala hal dan bukan karena peraturannya, tetapi karena kita mengasihi Tuhan, memiliki rasa takut akan Tuhan dan ingin menyenangkan hati-Nya.

Bible Reading: Leviticus 22
The Lord did gave a lot of rules to the Israelites, but what the Lord always told them of every rule that He gave is that the Lord is the one who sanctifies Israelites and not their actions or the rules themselves. That way, the Lord clearly shows authority that is in Him, that even through the rules that He gave to keep holiness in the midst of His people and His holiness is important, it is not as important as the Lord Himself, because at the end authority and holiness is in the hands of the Lord. So, does that mean that we do not have to guard and watch our acitons? Of course we still need to watch our actions, attitude, and words according to the Word of God. For, if the Lord gives rules and said that the one who sanctifies is Himself and not the rules, then what the Lord sees is faithfulness and obedience to the Lord, that is our heart's commitment to the Lord. If we really follow the Lord with our whole hearts and love Him, then we will be faithful and obedient to all His Words, even though it is not easy. But if we only do the rules, then, even though we are obedient, because our heart's attitude is not wholly for Him and no love for Him, in the end we will feel tired and leave the Lord, or we will have no peace or joy and in the end becomes a stumbling block for others. But also, if we only say that we love the Lord but we do not stay faithful and obedient to the Lord, then all is in vain and it is better for us to immediately repent. So, let us introspect ourselves. Let us obey and be faithful to the Lord in all things and not because of the rules, but because we love the Lord, have fear of the Lord and want to please His heart.
