Pembacaan Alkitab: Roma 4
Dari pada awalnya, di jaman Abraham, oleh karena iman kepada Tuhan, Abraham menerima janji-janji Allah dan itu berlaku bagi kita semua oleh karena iman. Jadi, iman adalah dasar dari kepercayaan kita kepada Tuhan, sama seperti Abraham, Daud dan anak-anak Tuhan lainnya yang di Alkitab. Sebab ketika Tuhan berfirman kepada mereka, mereka belum melihat hal itu terjadi, dan bahkan terlihat mustahil. Seperti Abraham, ketika Tuhan berkata bahwa ia akan menjadi bapa segala bangsa, Abraham sudah lanut umurnya dan Sara istrinya juga sudah tidak dapat mengandung lagi secara manusiawi. Tetapi justru di dalam ketidak-mustahilan itu, Abraham percaya dan beriman kepada Tuhan yang memberikan janji itu. Dan sekarang kita melihat bahwa olehkarena iman, Abraham telah menjadi bapa segala bangsa, sebab karena iman kita semua telah masuk sebagai anak-anak rohani Abraham. Jadi, apakah yang menjadi dasar kepercayaan ktia kepada Tuhan? Apakah hanya karena Tuhan telah berbuat baik kepada kita? Apakah hanya karena kita melihat mujizat di saat kita memerlukannya? Ya memang betul bahwa semua itu menjadi suatu titik balik di dalam kehidupan kita untuk percaya kepada Tuhan, tetapi yang menjadi dasar kita percaya bukanlah hanya karena apa yang Tuhan lakukan, tetapi karena siapa Tuhan itu dan oleh karena iman kepada Tuhan Yesus Kristus sendiri. Sebab bila percaya kita berdasarkan perbuatan yang kita lihat, bagaimana jika memang kita tidak melihat mujijat, atau sedang melewati lembahkekelaman? Bukankah kita akan menjadi tidak percaya lagi? Tetapi bila percaya kita berdasarkan iman kepada Tuhan Yesus Kristus sendiri, kita akan tetap teguh apapun yang terjadi, sebab kita percaya karena siapa Tuhan itu, bukan hanya karena perbuatan baik-Nya. Jadi, biarlah percaya kita berdasarkan iman kepada Tuhan Yesus Kristus.

From the beginning, in the times of Abraham, because of faith to the Lord, Abraham received the promises and it still is valid for all of us because of faith. So, faith is the foundation of our belief in the Lord, just like Abraham, David and other children of God in the Bible. Because when the Lord spoke to them, they have not seen it happen and it even looked impossible. Just like Abraham when the Lord told him that he will be father of many nations, Abraham was old and Sara also could not conceive physically anymore. But in that impossible moment, Abraham believed and had faith in the Lord who gave that promise. And now we can see that because of faith, Abraham had become father of many nations, for because of faith, we all have entered as Abraham's spiritual children. So what is the foundation of our belief in the Lord? Is it only because the Lord had been good to us? Is it only because we have seen a miracle when we need it? Yes, it's true that all of that has become a turning point in our lives to believe in the Lord, but what becomes our foundation of our belief is not only because what the Lord had done, but who the Lord is and because of faith to the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. For if our belief are based only on the things we have seen, what if we do not see another miracle, or are going through the valley of death? Wouldn't we stop believing in the Lord? But if our belief is based on faith to the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, we will be firm no matter what happen, for we believe because of who the Lord is and not only because of His goodness. So, let our belief be based on faith to the Lord Jesus Christ.
