Kesempatan Bertobat | A Chance To Repent

Pembacaan Alkitab: 1Raja-Raja 19-20

Raja Ahab tidak hidup sesuai dengan Firman Tuhan dan ia tidak berjalan di jalan yang benar. Tetapi iraja Ahab mengikuti istrinya, Izebel untuk melakukan yang jahat di mata Tuhan dengan menyembah Baal. Walaupun demikian, Tuhan memberikan kesempatan untuk Ahab bertobat dan kembali ke jalan Tuhan. Pada saat Tuhan tunjukkan kedashyatan-Nya di gunung Karmel, Tuhan telah berikan kesempatan agar Ahab mau bertobat, tetapi ia tidak. Sekarang Tuhan berikan kesempatan lagi, yakni bahwa ia akan menang dalam peperangan agar ia tahu bahwa Tuhanlah Allah. Tetapi setelah kemenangan itu, Ahab tidak bertobat dan bahkan berontak kepada Firman Tuhan dengan tidak menumpas habis musuh-musuhnya.

Kita dapat melihat bahwa bukannya Tuhan tidak memberikan kesempatan untuk bertobat, tetapi Ahab sendiri yang tidak mau bertobat. Seringkali Tuhan bukakan jalan dan kesempatan agar kita dapat menyaksikan kebesaran dan kuasa-Nya, sehingga kita percaya kepada-Nya dan bertobat. Tetapi seirngkali juga kita tidak memperdulikannya atau masih memilih untuk mengikuti apa yang kita mau dan bukan jalan Tuhan. Dan dari kehidupan Ahab kita tahu bahwa karena pemberntakannya dan pilihannya untuk tidak bertobat, maka ia nyawanyalah yang menjadi tanggungannya. Oleh sebab itu, marilah kita bertobat selagi Tuhan masih memberikan kita kesempatan. Janganlah kita menunda-nunda pertobatan kita. Janganlah kita merasa bahwa kita masih ada banyak waktu, sebab kita juga tidak tahu kapan waktunya yang telah ditentukan untuk kita mati. Maka dari itu, marilah kita hidup di dalam pertobatan dan ketaatan untuk ikuti Firman Tuhan dan jangan kita menunda-nunda hal-hal yang Tuhan bukakan untuk kita buang atau agar kita bertobat. Jangan sia-siakan kesempatan yang Tuhan berikan.

Bible Reading: 1Kings 19-20

King Ahab did not live according to the Word of God and he did not walk in the righteous path. But king Ahab followed his wife, Jezebel to do what is evil before the Lord by worshiping Baal. Even so, the Lord gave Ahab a chance to repent and to go back to the way of the Lord. When the Lord showed His greatness and power at mount Carmel, the Lord gave Ahab a chance to repent, but he did not. Now the Lord gave Ahab another chance, that is he will win the battle so that he would know that the Lord is God. But after the victory, Ahab did not repent and even rebelled against the Word of God by not finishing all his enemies.

We can see that it's not that the Lord did not gave a chance to repent, but Ahab simply chose not to repent. Many times the Lord opened up chances so that we may witness His greatness and pwer so that we would believe in Him and repent. But many times too, we did not care or still chose to follow what we want and not the way of the Lord. And from the life of Ahab we know that because of his rebellion and his choice not to repent, his life was the price. Therefore, let us repent while the Lord is still giving us chances. Do not delay our repentance. Do not feel that we still have a lot of time, because we do not know when is the appointed time for us to die. Therefore, let us live in repentance and obedient to follow the Word of God and do not delay the things that the Lord had revealed for us to throw away or so that we would repent from. Do not waste the chances that the Lord gave.
