Pembacaan Alkitab: 2Raja-Raja 11-12

Kita dapat melihat dari sejarah raja-raja  Israel dan Yehuda bahwa banyak sekali raja yang dibunuh oleh pegawai-pegawai mereka atau oleh pengawal atau bawahan mereka. Sedangkan pada jaman Daud dan Salomo, tidak ada hal seperti itu yang terjadi dalam kerajaan. Dari hal ini ada beberapa hal yang mungkin menjadi penyebab mengapa hal itu terjadi: mungkin saja orang-orang makin haus akan kekuasaan dan mereka ingin memiliki kekuasaan itu, atau juga raja-raja yang tidak becus memerintah sehingga bawahannya berontak. Kita tidak tahu dengan pasti mengapa hal-hal itu terjadi, tetapi ada satu hal yang kita tahu dengan pasti,yakni, raja-raja yang tidak hidup menurut Firman Tuhan atau yang tidak mencari Tuhan sepanjang hidup mereka atau yang tidak bertobat dari jalannya yang jahat, atau juga yang melakukan hal-hal yang keji di hadapan Tuhan, dan raja-raja ini memiliki akhir yang menyedihkan. Mungkin kita berpikir bagaimana dengan raja Daud dan Salomo, bukankah mereka juga berdosa terhadap Tuhan? Raja Daud, walaupun ia berdosa, tetapi ia selalu bertobat dengan sungguh-sungguh dan ia tidak mati karena dibunuh orang. Raja Salomo, walaupun ia hidup di luar dari jalan Tuhan karena istri-istrinya yang membuat hatinya jauh dari Tuhan, tetapi ia sadar, bertobat dan mengakui bahwa memang hidup tanpa Tuhan itu tidak ada artinya, dan ia tidak mati dibunuh. Yang berbeda adalah hati Daud dan Salomo, mereka memiliki hati yang mau bertobat dan mau ditegur.

Jadi, dari kehidupan raja-raja ini, kita dapat melihat satu kesimpulan yang pasti, yakni mereka yang hidup di luar Tuhan, tidak mau bertobat dan tidak mau ditegur, mereka mati dibunuh. Oleh karena itu, marilah kita belajar untuk hidup di dalam Tuhan, mengandalkan Tuhan dalam segala aspek kehidupan kita. Dalam kita bersekolah, bekerja, berbisnis, mengurus rumah tangga dan sebagainya, biarlah kita ikut-sertakan Tuhan dan hidup sesuai dengan Firman Tuhan. Sebab Firman itu adalah hidup dan di dalamnya kita mendapatkan hidup yang kekal.

Bible Reading: 2Kings 11-12

We can see from the history of the kings of Israel and Judah that so many of the kings were killed by their servants, guards, or their people. While in the era of David and Solomon, there were nothing of sort that happened. From this there are a few possibilities of why this happened: maybe the people are getting hungrier for power and they wanted it, or maybe the kings were not fit to be king that their people rebelled. We do not know for sure why things things happened, but one thing that we know for sure, is that these kings do not live according to the Word of the Lord or do not seek the Lord in their lives, or do not repent from their wicked ways, or doing wicked things before the Lord, an these kings had a pitiful ending. Maybe we're thinking, what about David and Solomon, did they not also sinned before the Lord? King David, though he sinned, he always truly repent and he did not die because someone killed him. King Solomon, though he lives outside of God's way because of his wives, but he realised, repent and acknowledge that life without the Lord is meaningless and he did not die because someone killed him. What's different is the heart of David and Solomon, they have a heart that wants to repent, and is willing to be rebuked and corrected.

So, form the lives of these kings, we can see one sure conclusion, that they who lived outside of the Lord, who does not want to repent and be corrected or rebuked, they all die because someone killed them. Therefore, let us learn to live in the Lord, relying on the Lord in all aspects of our lives. When we study, work, running businesses, raising a family and etc, let us involve God and live according to the Word of the Lord. Because His Word is life and in it we have eternal life.
